Onion
Onion was first planted in Europe in the 6-th century, but it was not popular in Poland before the 14-th century. Now, thanks to its high nutritive and flavoury values and healing properties, it is widely known and popular almost all over the world, It contains mineral salts, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron, zinc, vitamines B1, B2, PP, B6, folic acid and nicotinic acid.
Due to a big production volume and its export significance, onion belongs to the group of the most important vegetables produced in Poland. It is planted in a conventional way on around 30-35 thousand hectars. Annual crops of onion reach 600-750 thousand tons.
